Be aware of the fake monks in Thailand asking for money. Theravadan
monks are not allowed to ask for money and strictly speaking should not
be handling money themselves. The local Thais know this scam well but
most tourists do not so be careful.
Any monk or nun
wandering around and asking you directly for money is a fraud. Real
monks and nuns go on alms rounds in the mornings and are well looked
after by the communities.
